IEE - Energy for mayors – A network of sustainable energy supporting structures for the covenant of mayors
Project Energy for
mayors was launched under the EU Programme: Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE).
The project has fifteen partners: Province of Genoa - Italy (project

Authorities - Bulgaria.
The main objective of
the project is to actively support EU initiative Covenant of Mayors. Project
duration is 36 months, from 1st of May 2010 to 1st of May
2013.
Project goals:
- To strengthen supporting structures to enable them to assist municipalities in signing the Covenant of Mayors;
- To strengthen the role of local governments, guiding their communities in the development of sustainable energy strategies;
- To assist in the development and implementation of Sustainable Energy Action Plans in selected municipalities;
- To allow an effective monitoring of the results and of the implementation of the SEAPs throughout the project duration and beyond;
- To improve efficiency of energy management in a selected number of municipalities;
- To increase the number of supporting structures in the Covenant of Mayors initiative.
Activities within the project:
- 100+ municipalities contacted and informed in project area regarding Covenant of Mayors initiative;
- 15-20 municipalities sign the Covenant of Mayors in each target territory (7 targeted territories);
- 6-8 municipalities are connected and fully accompanied in the finalization and implementation of SEAs in each target area;
- Selection and implementation of 3 actions per SEAPs in each target area;
- Set of financial opportunities shared in each target area;
- 8 pilot energy management systems are implemented;
- Organized Energy days and one 2-day open training seminar for supporting structures;
- Training material for supporting structures and municipalities developed.
