Revitalization of abandoned quarry in Pregrada

Kunagora quarry is an abandoned quarry near the city of Pregrada which will be transformed to a theme park with a walking trail. Excursion site will consist of two tourist-catering facilities and a couple of parks for young children. Road access with large parking lot will be provided as well. Walking trails will link a dozen of small scale castles (historical buildings modeled on the actual castles located in Hrvatsko Zagorje). Castles and walking trails will be allighted with solar powered lamps.

Main facility of the excursion site will be an educational and recreational center for children and youth, equipped with a gift shop and info center. Tourist catering facilities will provide accommodation with 50 beds which should enhance local tourist offer and create conditions for organizing children's programmes such as school in nature and similar educational programmes.

 

Project goals:

  • Enhancing the local tourist offer and development of rural areas of Krapina-Zagorje County;
  • Promotion of Small Businesses and Entrepreneurship;
  • Environmental protection, contribution to better life quality.

 

Activities within the project:

  • The project is in the preparatory phase. Co-financing from the Environment Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund will be requested;
  • North West Croatia Regional Energy Agency provides assistance to the city of Pregrada in the form of project preparation and advisory services.
